Oh poor dear Rebecca Louise, what a drastically horrible time she is having!!! Thanks for taking care of dad. He may have actually snuck out of the hospital and gone to Binghamton you know!

Ha ha ha, yes, she is REALLY suffering. Today when I woke up she was sitting on her divan saying, "No one did the dishes last night, which doesn't bode well for me. And what the hell is going on with my bustle?!!" I think Dad did sneak out. He's very crafty. And FAST.

Such a beautiful reflection of a challenging time. I love what you write about the wonder of our hands. I often think how grateful I am for my hands and all they do. I hope your father has continued to improve!

I love Rebecca Louise, as I can relate! Funny how I just yesterday picked up my sketch pad and watercolors again and today I’m reading this. Lovely to know you, and I look forward to more.

Sweet Rebecca, I’ve been thinking about you and your dad. I like thinking that maybe he somehow did go to Binghamton and New Jersey 🩷 I love your watercolor - Rebecca Louise. I feel seen.

Awww, thank you Missy! I like thinking he was out driving around, too. I'm sure he was! And thanks, re: The watercolor! I think there's a little Rebecca Louise in a lot of us. I also have an inner Heloise, who likes to tell everyone what problems they have that they don't see but she does. She is not as welcome at parties as she thinks she is, so I try to keep her sedated with candy. Thank you for writing and thinking of us!

That line, “you have odd children”—I can hear the tone of your voice saying it and even picture the expression on your face, because it sounds so much like something you’d say. I hope the reiki helps.

I love that, Scott, thank you! The reiki seemed to help calm him, and he's doing a lot better now--he had a second surgery on Saturday. He's a really good patient. It makes me so happy that you see and hear me through these pieces. Whenever you say that, I feel like we're in the same room together again.

Love everything about this - except that your father was in pain, of course. i, too, am in awe of hands. Doing something, anything, with my hands, lifts my spirits.

This bit -- "Like there they are, throwing humans all kinds of messages, and we sleep right through them." -- reminds me of Wim Wenders' film, "Wings of Desire." I think about that a lot - that it's all right there, just beyond our notice, but it doesn't have to be that way.

What a beautiful moment when your father asked who was holding his other hand. 💚

Thank you so much, Julie! Yes, I loved that Wim Wender's film! Do you remember that scene where that man is sitting on a metro with his head in his hand thinking, "What am I going to do, I've ruined everything, it's over, what am I going to do?" And the angel puts his hand on his shoulder? That felt so completely true to me, when I saw it, and it's still the main thing I remember from the movie. I love that my piece made you think of it. Thank you so much for reading and for sharing that with me!

Thought about him a lot this week as I wrote about the Canadian Northern Depot in Warroad and went looking for good historic images of trains. They are objects of beauty. Hope he's feeling better!
